    Exporting Designs for Cutting Machines

Learn how to export your vector designs optimized for Cricut, Silhouette, Brother, and other cutting machines. Master export settings for perfect cuts every time.

    1

    Why Export for Cutting Machines?

Cutting machines like Cricut, Silhouette, and Brother ScanNCut require optimized SVG files for best results. Our export tool automatically optimizes your designs for compatibility with popular cutting machines.

    2

    Open the Export Dialog

Once your design is complete, go to File → Export in the menu. This opens the export dialog where you can configure settings for your cutting machine.

    3

    Basic Export Settings

Start with basic settings: enter a filename and select SVG format. The default settings work well for most cutting machines, but you can customize for your specific machine.

    4

    Open Cutting Machine Options

Click 'Options for Cutting Machines' to expand advanced settings. Here you can select your specific cutting machine (Cricut, Silhouette, Brother, etc.) and configure bed sizes.

    5

    Select Your Cutting Machine

Choose your cutting machine from the dropdown. Supported machines include Cricut Maker, Cricut Explore, Silhouette Cameo, Silhouette Portrait, Brother ScanNCut, and Glowforge. Each machine has optimized settings.

    6

    Choose Mat or Bed Size

Select the size of your cutting mat or bed. Common sizes include 12×12", 12×24", and 8.5×11" mats. The tool will warn you if your design exceeds the selected size.

    7

    Optimization Options

Enable 'Clean SVG' to remove metadata and optimize the file. Enable 'Flatten groups' if your cutting software has trouble with nested groups. These options ensure maximum compatibility.

    8

    Export Your Design

Click the Export button to download your optimized SVG file. The file will be ready to import into your cutting machine software (Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Studio, etc.).

Pro Tips for Cutting Machine Export

    • Always convert text to paths before exporting (cutting machines can't cut fonts directly) • Keep designs within your mat size to avoid warnings • Use 'Clean SVG' for maximum compatibility with all cutting software • Test your exported file in your cutting software before cutting expensive materials • Save a copy of your design before flattening groups (if you might need to edit later)
